Abuja – Mr Abdullahi Candido, the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), on Tuesday distributed some food items and cash to the less privileged people within the area council.
The items included 60 bags of 25kg rice and N10,000 cash to each of the 56 beneficiaries.
The Vice Chairman of AMAC, Mr Lawrence Onochukwu, made the presentation in Abuja on behalf of the council.
Onochukwu explained that the gesture was a fulfillment of the campaign promises and to improve the welfare of the beneficiaries, especially the widows.
He said, “In 2016 when we came on board, we promised to give back 50 per cent of our salary to support and care for the less privileged in the society and the widows.
“We are grateful for the privilege to serve and we hope to reach out to the poor of the poorest through our show of love,’’ he said.
The vice chairman also called on other political appointees in the country to give back to society, by reaching out to the poor.
He added that it was an expression of love and an act of service to God and humanity.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Habiba Gangiwa, a widow, thanked the council for its show of love.
She expressed gratitude to the council for remembering the widows and the poor in the society.
She prayed that God would continue to give the chairman and his team, the wisdom to pilot affairs of the council and its people.
Mr Haruna Muhammed, another beneficiary, commended the leadership of the council for assisting the poor masses.
“I thank God that I am alive to see good leaders like you, who have the fear of God to provide needs for the poor in the society
“I so much appreciate this gift because over the years I had lost my house to demolition and my shop was burnt.
“Because of that, life has not been easy for me and my family. I am so happy and I pray that Allah will bless the council.” (NAN)
