PORT HARCOURT – Rivers State governor, Chibuike Amaechi, on Friday said he was shocked by the news of the death of former Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN), Mrs Oluremi Oyo.
Amaechi, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr David Iyofor, offered condolences to the management of NAN and family of Oyo on her passing on.
The governor said that Oyo’s passing on was a huge loss to the nation and the media.
“She has been of great service to the nation, delivering and ensuring quality reportage throughout her time as managing director of the NAN.
“And as President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, she gave her best. Remi Oyo was a true professional,” he said.
Amaechi sympathised with the family, friends and associates of late Oyo, and urged them to find strength in the fact that she lived a successful life.
“She will be greatly missed and remembered for her professionalism and capacity in service to the nation and the media industry.” [eap_ad_1] The governor prayed God to grant the family of the deceased the fortitude to bear the loss, and that her soul should rest in the bosom of the Almighty.
Mr Ogbonna Nwuke, a member of the National Assembly, (APC- Omuma/Etche), described the death of Oyo as a big loss to the nation and journalism profession.
“We will miss Mrs Remi Oyo. She was a professional to the core and inspired many journalists to excel. She will surely be missed,’’ he said.
Mr Chidi Lloyd, the leader of the Rivers Assembly, expressed shock on the death of Oyo, saying that she made her mark as the President of the NGE and Presidential spokesperson. (NAN)
