Ambode releases N413m for bursaries, local scholarship to indigent students

Lagos -The Lagos State Government on Monday said it had approved the release of N413.1 million for the payment of outstanding bursaries and local scholarship to indigent students.

Mrs Yetunde Jegede, the Director, Lagos State Scholarship Board, made the disclosure in a statement signed by Mr Sesan Awobadejo, the board’s spokesperson.

Jegede said that N224.6 million would be paid to 400 level students for 2011/2012; 300 level students for 2013/114, and 200 level students for 2014/15 session.

She said that N88.9 million was also released for the 400 successful candidates who took part in the 2014/2015 local scholarship Computer-Based Test (CBT).

“The Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, also approved N99.6 million to 486 old beneficiaries.

“The board will commence documentation exercise in readiness for local scholarship beneficiaries which began on Aug.14, while documentation for bursary commences on Aug. 17,” she said.

Jegede urged the beneficiaries to complete their documentations early in order to collect their awards.

She said that the new beneficiaries of local scholarship were expected to produce the original and photocopies of the brochure, receipt and letter of admission.

The director listed other documents to include school identity card, two passport photographs and current progress report.

Others were SSCE/GCE result, JAMB result slip, LASRRA identification card, parent’s tax clearance, letter from the local government, letter from a traditional ruler and birth certificate of the beneficiary.

Jegede said that old beneficiaries should come for their documentation with the original and photocopies of their scholarship award letter.

According to her, beneficiaries should also come along with school identity card, progress report for the previous year duly stamped and signed by the school authority.

“The local scholarship award is merit based and is given to reduce financial burden of brilliant, but indigent students.

The award value ranges between N200, 000 for undergraduates, N300, 000 for Master’s Degree and N400, 000.00 for Doctorate Degree.

“Bursary award is for undergraduates who are indigenes of the state to also reduce financial commitment of its citizenry.

“The award value ranges between N20, 000, N30, 000, N40, 000 and N50, 000 depending on the courses of study,’’ she said.

Jegede urged the beneficiaries to turn
up for the exercise, saying that no form
of complaints would be entertained after
four months, beginning from the commencement date of the
