YOLA – A member of the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT), Prof. Jibril Aminu, on Thursday in Yola called for the scrapping of waivers in the party.
Aminu told newsmen this would help to provide a level-playing field for all party members wishing to contest elections.
“I think the more you maintain the waiver system, the more you are delaying the maturation of your party. Waiver means you are not fair to some people,’’ he said.
The former Minister of Education said PDP needed to grow in areas of justice and fairness after 16 years of piloting the affairs of Nigeria.
“PDP will grow by giving equal opportunities to all members aspiring to contest elections under its platform,’’ he said.
Aminu who congratulated the people of Adamawa State for “living to see Murtala Nyako off as governor’’ said PDP must now do better in the choice of a new Adamawa State governor.
“This time around, party members must be given a free hand to select the party’s flagbearer,’’ he said.
The former Senator said he was confident the party would not only win the Adamawa State gubernatorial poll but also win the presidential election of 2015.

“As a party, there is no other party like PDP at this time. It’s not a joke to keep Nigeria one for 16 years, in spite of all the things going on.
“We (the PDP-led government) are able to maintain fundamental rights, freedom of the press and the freedom for politicians which is being used by some to abuse us,’’ Aminu said.
Aminu criticised those attacking President Goodluck Jonathan over his handling of counter-terrorism measures, saying they needed to look at the number of years it took other countries to fight terrorism.
“They should look at other countries, including the developed ones, and they will then appreciate the efforts of the Federal Government,’’ he said.
The former minister who is a delegate to the ongoing National Conference said he was satisfied with it and felt optimistic about the future of Nigeria after the conference.
“People were given the chance to talk or vote. Everybody talked, and some abused people like me.
“Some people even thought a national conference is a death sentence for Nigeria. But they were proved wrong,’’ Aminu said.(NAN)
