Abuja – The Department of Development Control, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC),on Saturday arraigned six residents of Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, before a Mobile Court for illegal dumping of construction wastes.
Prosecutor Arome Tokula told the court that by dumping construction wastes like sand, gravel and broken block in front of their premises, the accused persons contravened the law.
“The residents committed an offence by illegally dumping of construction wastes in unauthorised locations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The offence contravenes Section 27 of the AEPB Act, and I pray the court to impose appropriate sanctions,’’ he said.
Only one of the accused was present in court, and he pleaded guilty to the charge.
The Presiding Judge, Mr Jubril Kutigi, held that the accused present in court should pay a fine of N10, 000, and properly dispose of the waste within 48 hours.
Kutigi also ordered that the five accused absent in court should have their premises temporarily sealed off until they properly dispose of the waste.
“The accused person present before this court is hereby, ordered to pay a fine of N10, 000, and to ensure that the construction wastes in his premises are properly disposed within 48 hours.

“For those who failed to appear in court, their premises are to be temporarily sealed off until they comply with the directive and properly dispose of their construction wastes,’’ Kutigi held. (NAN)
