Osogbo – Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, the Chairman of Osun Football Association, on Saturday described the death of Shuaibu Amodu, a three-time Head Coach of the Super Eagles as another national loss.
Amodu, who died on Friday four days after Stephen Keshi, a former Super Eagles Captain and Coach passed on in Benin City.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Osogbo, Ogunjobi said the talented football tactician would be greatly missed by the nation’s soccer family.
Ogunjobi, who was the former Nigerian Football Association (NFA) Secretary General and currently, the Chairman of Prime Football Club, said:”Its a painful loss, Nigeria has lost a very talented tactician in Shuaibu Amodu.
“We worked together when I was the Secretary-General of the Nigerian Football Federation and also worked together when I was the chairman of the Technical Committee of the NFF, and I know how he loved the country.
“He was the one that qualified us for two world cups, and having lost Steven Keshi within a space of four days, and Amodu too died early this morning, it is something that made me cry.
“I am not happy about it, I believe it is another national loss for the country.
“I just hope and I will advise nigerian coaches and other sports fellows to ensure that they go for regular check-up and I pray we do no’t record such again …it is a big loss to the Nigerian football family,” he said.
NAN reports that Amodu, 58, had complained of chest pain before he went to bed on Friday night. (NAN)
