Abuja – The Vice-President of the Association of Nigerian Authors, Denja Abdullahi, has called on Nigerian writers to be more proactive in their literary works.
Abdullahi made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday, saying authors had a big role to play in the shaping of society.
“ Nigerian writers, just like their counterparts all over the world, need to be more proactive in their works.
“There will always be varieties of culture; many of what hold true today will hold true in years to come but there may be certain modifications.
“It is good to write about the past and the present but it is also important to help to chart the course for the future.
“Culture is so dynamic that it is difficult to know where one culture stops and another begins.

“Nonetheless, our writers need to be more futuristic in their work; we need to project more into the future more.’’
Abdullahi also commended contemporary writers for their efforts to chronicle contemporary events.
He called on them to continue to encourage young writers to stay true to the ethics of the profession.
“We must give kudos to our present generation of writers who are chronicling contemporary events.
“However, we should not only write to inform but to educate and inspire the younger generation to uphold good virtues and ethics of the profession.
“We must always bear in mind that the events are current today but, in years to come, will form part of our culture; so we need to do more,’’ Abdullahi said. (NAN)
