Abuja – Mr Chikwendu Ogbonnaya, Executive Director, Policy Dialogue, Utako, Abuja, on Tuesday advised parents to reproduce children they could raise without minimum stress.
Ogbonnaya gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
He noted that in recent time lots of children lack the basic education they require.
The analyst said that some parents had shifted the responsibility of raising their children to God without considering the primary reason of bringing them to life.
“We must separate certain things we do; some sections of this country give a lot of task to God, and God has given us responsibilities and provided a lot of things for us.
“We have to be responsible so that we don’t leave our children on the probability of survival.
“Parents should be responsible to the children they reproduce and not ascribe the task to God,” Ogbonnaya counselled.

He attributed rising street hawking, juvenile delinquencies and other social vices to the inability of parents to cater for their excess children.
The analyst also urged government to sensitise parents on the dangers of bearing more children than they could train.
Ogbonnaya further advocated for policies that would improve the lives of teh citizenry.
He suggested that government should introduce redistributive policies so that children could benefit.
“Nigeria should develop policies that are redistributive in nature because it will benefit children and the wealth will go round.
“We should also encourage regulatory policies because our policy implementation is very weak.
“When we have regulatory policies, children around three years will not be sent to school and compelled to learn beyond six hours, and yet in an unfavourable environment,’’ said the analyst.
The public policy analyst also recommended for more sensitisation to be conducted among women, adding that women mentor every concern about the family. (NAN)
