Awka – Mr Michael Okonkwo, the Managing Director, Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, says an aerial photography of Anambra has been completed by the government.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Awka that Gov. Willie Obiano approved the project which covered the entire 4000 square kilometres of the state.
Okonkwo said,“ the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority generated a base map for the area, comprising six Local Government Areas and 24 towns.
“ The benefits of generating a base map for Awka Capital Territory Development Authority made the state adopt another move to do aerial photography of the entire state.
“Anambra state is among three or four states in the country that have done aerial photography of its capital” he said.
He said the move was among the legacy projects by Gov. Obiano to Anambra people.
Okonkwo, also the Chief Executive Officer of the authority, said that since the creation of the state in 1991 to May 2014, the capital territory had no base map.
“ We had a mandate to accelerate infrastructure development within the Awka Capital Territory, generate a master plan for the Capital territory, implement the master plan, establish infrastructure with the master plan.
“ We quickly put together Awka capital Territory Development Manual, vetted and approved by the state executive council,” he said.
According to him, the full master plan of the territory is on-going and when completed, will attract investors and developers to the area.
“ We are using Dubai as a model. Already, massive infrastructural development is taking place. Some road networks have been built to link each local government and towns in the territory.
“ We have also put together, what we call Awka Capital Territory Concept Master Plan, which will be released soon. It is the new Awka Capital Territory Urban design framework plan. We will offer new land use, new urban renewal initiatives and implementation strategies,” Okonkwo said.
