Awka – A political pressure group in Anambra, the Obiano Support Group (OSG), has canvassed a second tenure for Gov. Willie Obiano’s administration.
The group on Tuesday, urged the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the platform on which Obiano won his election, to issue him automatic ticket for second bid for the governorship poll slated later this year.
Chief Jude Emecheta, Chairman of the group, told newsmen in Awka that Obiano was the most formidable candidate the party could field.
He said that the governor’s impressive performance since assuming office in 2014 highly recommended him for another slot in office.
Emecheta described Obiano as the only APGA governor and a great rallying point for the people of the South-East, adding that he needed to be encouraged to do more.
He said the group’s support for Obiano was not based on sentiments but on merit.
“Obiano has turned around Anambra for good, he has also been a great ambassador of our great party and he is the best candidate that we will field in the governorship election.
“Just as Barack Obama is not challenged by the Democrats in his second bid for the presidency in 2009, Obiano should also enjoy the same privilege at the party level.
“He should be given automatic ticket because he deserves it,” Emecheta said.
Emecheta, who is also an APGA chieftain, debunked the rumour that Obiano was in secret talks with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to defect.
“Though Gov. Willie Obiano has a cordial working relationship with the presidency by keying into some of its various programmes, he has in no way compromised his party, APGA.
“Our governor is doing everything in the best interest of the state, yes, he has cordial working relationship with the Federal Government, led by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
‘’He is not into any negotiation whatsoever to defect.
“He is the custodian of Igbo conscience which APGA represents, he cannot work against APGA.
“People are busy defecting to APC just because they want to protect their businesses.Others think that they can use Federal might to win elections, here, nobody is telling Anambra people what they will do differently.” he said.
Emecheta said that though Obiano was still in his first tenure, justice and equity favoured Anambra North Senatorial District for a second tenure.
