IF, the major support structure of late Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah, made the adoption at its general meeting held at its in Awka on Thursday.
Ukachukwu is among the aspirants contesting primary election which will produce the party’s flagbearer in the November 8 governorship poll.
Others are Mr Paul Chukwuma, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, Mr Chukwuma Umeoji, Mr Valentine Ozigbo, Mr Johnbosco Onunkwo and Mr Edozie Madu.
Mr Johnny Oraefo, National Adviser, IF, who declared the position of the group said the conclusion was reached after a painstaking profiling of the aspirants, their antecedents and their capacity chances to win at the poll.
Oraefo, who is also the Vice-Chairman of Ikemba Front Elders Council (IFEC), said the group also considered the zoning arrangement which favours Anambra South Senatorial zone.
He described Ukachukwu governorship aspiration as a divine mandate ordained by God to turn the fortune of the state around.
The Vice-Chairman, IFEC, called on APC faithful and the delegates in particular to ensure that they delivered Ukachukwu’s candidature.
“This is because Ukachukwu is the best option for an assured victory for the national ruling party in the state come November 8 governoship election,” he said.
Chief Arinzechukwu Awogu, National Coordinator, IF, said the support group was determined to uphold the principles of its leader, late Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah and achieve his political ideals of equity, fairness and egalitarianism.
According to Awogu, the choice of Ukachukwu was in line with the Ifeanyi Ubah’s desire that power should remain in Anambra South in the next dispensation so that other zones would take their turns without unnecessary bickering.
He said Ukachukwu had demonstrated unassailable leadership qualities in private and public life as a businessman and lawmaker respectively.
“Dr Nicholas Ukachukwu possesses sterling qualities which placed him head and shoulders above other aspirants even though others are good in their own rights.
“Ukachukwu is the best option for APC and best governorship candidate for Anambra people in the November 8 election.
“Ikemba Front recognises the importance of this election for the people of this state and our great party and that is why we are presenting him as the people’s choice in the April 5 primary election,” he said.
Chief Abole Agu, a former deputy governor of the state said that Ukachukwu was the best choice for the state voters, and called on APC not to miss the opportunity of fielding its best candiate.
Others who spoke at the event included Bishop Emeka Nwankpa of the Chapel of Faith Bible Assembly International, who urged the APC to consider Ukachukwu in order to guarantee victory for the party.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that the adoption of Ukachukwu was endorsed by no fewer than 500 members of IF present at the event. (NAN)
