AWKA – The Anambra State Government has said that it will collaborate with the United Anambra Youth Assembly, the umbrella youth organisation in the state, to empower the youth and ensure adequate security of the people.
The Senior Special Adviser to Gov .Willie Obiano on Youth Mobilisation, Mr Chinedu Obidigwe, made the commitment on Monday during a meeting with the youth organisations and ward councillors.
He said the meeting was to sensitise the youth on their role in creating a more secure Anambra in line with the programme of the governor.
He said his office was using the councillors because of their reach with the people in the various communities as they had better knowledge of the environment.
Obidigwe said the government was working out good programmes for massive employment of youths and urged them to embrace the opportunities in the agricultural sector.
“The meeting was called to mobilise the youth to ensure that people in the rural areas were aware of the government activities as it concerned their welfare.
“We want the councillors to nominate candidates to participate in the on-going youth mobilisation so that through such mobilisation we can combat crime via prompt response and intelligence gathering.
“We also want the councillors to be in-charge in their wards by being effective in the discharge of their duties.
“The youth department of the ministry of sports has commenced the building of a data base for unemployed youths. We also encourage them to take advantage of it to actualise their potentials,” he said. (NAN)
