Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Plateau State Citizens have prayed not to have a repeat of what happened in Imo State southeast Nigeria on the 14th of January 2020, when the nation woke up to the disappointing news that the Supreme Court had nullified the election of Emeka Ihedioha of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), as the governor of Imo State.
The apex court had declared Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the election.
Praying for such not to reoccur in Plateau, citizens of the State who massively voted for Governor Caleb Mutfwang said the Plateau situation is quite different from that of Imo State. https://sundiatapost.com/reach-out-to-less-privilege-gov-mutfwang-preaches-at-christmas/
The electorates who gave the Governor 525,299 votes to defeat the APC candidate, Nentawe Yilwatda who pulled 481,370 votes said the State was tired of the eight years misrule of the APC led governor Simon Lalong administration, therefore opted for a change which the vote Governor Mutfwang garnered was a testament for that change.
“Mutfwang won the election and also won at the election tribunal. The Appeal Court however felt otherwise, but we know that the Supreme Court will do the right thing.
“The 525,299 votes should not be taken for granted as it represents the will of the people and the collective will of the people is often the will of God. https://sundiatapost.com/how-plateau-gov-mutfwang-face-lift-infrastructure-in-6-months/
“We have not seen where pre-election matters are used to determine election tribunal outcomes. We do hope that the trusted Supreme Court judges will live up to their expectations”, citizens who do not want their names in print told our correspondent.
Pundits said Governor Mutfwang’s administration for just six months have surpassed the eight years of former Governor Lalong as evidence abounds, adding that Governor Mutfwang has proven that the people of the State did not make a mistake choosing him as their Governor.
“You can see the road maintenance, all potholes fixed, railway lines back on track, airport upgraded, peace restored, film village groundbreaking to commence, smart housing units underway and many more, all in just six months”, political observers said.
They opined that if the Governor continued for the next three and half years, the Plateau dream would be fully actualized.
They called on the Supreme Court to allow the People’s will to continue rather than take the State back to the dark days where the votes in the last elections shows that the people are no longer comfortable with.
Our correspondent reports that Governor Mutfwang inherited N307bn debt from the former governor Lalong’s administration and a disabled workforce whose civil servants are on strike because of unpaid wages, a lame economy, and a threatening security challenge where citizens are killed in droves every other night and farmers chased away from their farms.
Thus, only two days after his swearing-in, Mutfwang visited Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in Riyom and Mangu local government areas.
That visit gave hope and confidence to the already despondent women and children, some of whom had been there from previous crises and had been abandoned for years in the IDP camps.
The Governor had reassured them of the commitment of his administration to address their plight.
Today, the Plateau is better managed and the people happy, only praying that the Supreme Court will help them in sustaining this happiness.
