Maiduguri – The Nigerian Army on Monday appealed to the media to sustain its support to the military in the effort to end the Boko Haram terrorism in the North-East.
Maj.-Gen. Lucky Irabor, Theater Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, made the appeal when he paid a visit to the Correspondents Chapel, Borno Chapter, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
“I have always seen journalists as stakeholders; you are not just stakeholders but you are critical stakeholders.
“We believe that journalists are core element in security arrangement in the North-East because your input is very valuable,’’ Irabor said.
He explained that his visit was to solidify the relationship between the media and military as the war against terrorism reaches a crucial stage.
“My coming here is twofold, first to thank every one of you for your contributions so far; largely I think we have received very huge positive reportage from all of you and I want to thank you for that.
“I have come in that light to let you know that it is not yet over for you to sustain the support,’’ he said.
Irabor advised journalists to consider national interest above other things in their daily reportage.
“I want to plead with you to be men of value in your daily reportage. The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) is a man of value, a man who leaves positive marks in whatever he does.
“ It is for you also in your own way to be a man of value and keep the nation moving,’’ Irabor said. (NAN)
