LAGOS – The President, Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN), Mr Foluso Fasoto, on Friday called on the Federal and State Governments to recognise the National Building Code.
Foluso made this call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
According to him, the non recognition of the National Building Code is one of the reasons the country is having housing deficits nationwide.

” We now have a building code that Nigeria appears to be paying lip service to.
”After APBN supported this building code to be properly prepared, it took a while before a board was set up.
”And up till now, appropriate recognition is not being given to it.
”We are having so many people living in slums, whereas we are supposed to be living in decent environment,” he said.
Fasoto said that so far, the various governments were not getting it right in the housing sector.
He added that the nation could not continue like this.
The APBN President said this was why the association was calling on the governments to make use of its members who are professionals, just like the developed countries are doing.
According to him, this way, we will get things right as a nation and Nigeria will be better for it.
Fasoto said that the Association was re-strategising to ensure that it is able to put the governments on the right track, for the development of the country.
He said that the Association would no longer wait on governments to call it, but would engage the governments on its own.
Fasoto said that the Association was now ready to contribute its quota to the development of the country. (NAN)
