KANO (Sundiata Post) – The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano state has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to launch a full-scale investigation into the medical supply contract to 44 local governments in the state.
In a statement issued to newsmen, Sunday, the chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Abbas also called for the freezing of the accounts of local councils in the state to stop further tampering of their resources in the name of joint projects.
He observed that the admission by Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, that he was not aware of the said contract in a recent statement was a clear indication that he was either not in control or lacked the capacity to lead the state
Abbas described as laughable the Governors directive to the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission to probe the latest financial controversy
He explained that going by his antecedents the chairman of the commission, Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado is partisan and lacked the power to investigate Complaints involving the immediate family members of the governor’s father in-law.
Abbas noted that the scandal is the latest in series of financial recklessness allegedly involving officials of the NNPP government.
The chairman said there were still financial allegations that are either not probed or not properly investigated involving government, its officials and appointees.
He said these included diversion and repackaging of palliatives by a political appointee attached to Cabinet Office, sale of government properties at Radio Kano, missing funds at Abubakar Rimi Television, illegal sale of palliatives at the state Agricultural and Rural Development Authority, and the alleged case of diversion of palliatives traced to the private residence of a top government officials in the Governor’s office.
