LAFIA – The All Progressive Congress (APC) on Friday in Lafia said that the party would continue to maintain and sustain its principle of internal democracy to ensure stability in the party.
Mr Stanley Buba, the Interim Chairman of the party in the state, said this when he received party supporters from Keffi Local Government Area who visited him in his office.
According to Buba, the recent successes and popularity of APC across the country and the massive defection of politicians from other parties to the APC are due to the party’s unflinching belief in internal democracy.
He said that this had resulted to equity and fairness for every member of the party
He said that the leadership of the APC was committed to building on the successes of the party.
He assured the supporters that it was in the interest of the majority that equity would always prevail as a hallmark of democracy.
Speaking on the inability of the party to conduct congress in Keffi Local Government Area of the state, Buba said that the party would work with the report of the electoral committee to ensure that justice was done.
The recent ward congresses in Nasarawa state could not hold in Keffi Local Government Area due to some issues yet to be resolved by the party leadership.
Earlier, Alhaji Musa Talamu, the leader of the group, said they were in the party secretariat to appeal to the party leadership to disallow imposition of candidates.
Talamu appealed to the party chairman to give the people of Keffi the chance to elect their officials so as to enshrine the party’s democratic principles.
“It is wiser to learn from what happened in the recent local government election in the area and carry people along for the progress of the party.’’
He said that Keffi was still the home of APC in spite of the challenges the party faced at the recent local government polls.
He advised people at the grassroots to always be involved in the scheme of things in the party.
Talamu commended APC led administration under the leadership of Gov. Umaru Al-Makura for providing dividends of democracy for the people of Keffi.
He advised the governor not to allow anybody to dent the image of the party for their selfish gains. (NAN)
