Akure – The Ondo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has congratulated the state Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) for the successful election of its new officers, held on March 21.
Mr Steve Otaloro, the Director, Media & Publicity of APC in the state, congratulated the union in a statement made available to newsmen in Akure on on Sunday.
“We congratulate the newly-elected Chairman, Mr Adetona Aderoboye and other executive committee members of the NUJ, Ondo State Council.
“The reports at our disposal show that due process and democratic procedures characterised the entire election activities that ushered in the new executive members.
“This, as you will attest to, is in line with what our party, the APC and Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu represent.
“We commend your renewed peaceful interrelationship, unfragmented affinity, commitment to good democratic values and oneness of purpose in the union,’’ Otaloro said.
He urged the new executive members to commit their tenure to true sportsmanship, professionalism and one devoid of rancour and pettiness.
The party spokesman urged them to work toward ostracising fake journalists from the profession and fake news peddler.
“The authenticity of information has become a longstanding issue affecting our society, both for print and digital media.
“On social networks, the reach and effects of information spread occur at such a fast pace and so amplified that distorted, inaccurate or false information acquires a tremendous potential to cause real world impacts, within minutes, for millions of users,’’ Otaloro said.
He noted that the party was looking forward to a robust relationship with the new executive committee toward a partnership of good project Nigeria.
