SOKOTO – The members of Sokoto State Youths Enlightenment Forum on Sunday said they endorsed Gov. Aliyu Wamakko for the Sokoto Central Senatorial election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress ( APC) in 2015.
The Chairman of the forum, Alhaji Bashiru Abubakar, announced this to newsmen in Sokoto shortly after its general meeting, attended by members from the 23 local government areas of the state.
According to him,”we want Wamakko to contest the senatorial position due to his landmark achievements as a governor of the state for nearly eight years.
“We are of the belief that the zone and the state generallly will have a quality representation when Wamakko is elected as a senator”.
He said that Wamakko had transformed the state in all ramifications from 2007 to date.
Wamakko, the chairman of the forum explained, was capable of diligently replicating the feat he achieved as a governor.
” Some of the giant strides of Wamakko include the successful take-off of the state university, construction of an ultra-modern orthopaedic hospital, College of Agriculture, Wurno, and the School of Midwifery,Tambuwal. ”
The state government under Wamakko had also given priroty attention to youths and women empowerment,” Abubakar, added.
In a related development, the executive members of the All Progressives congress (APC) in Silame Local Government of the state endorsed the incumbent Chairman of the area, Alhaji Mani Katami, to contest for the House of Representatives. [eap_ad_1] The decision was taken at a meeting of the party in Silame, headquarters of the local government on Sunday.
The chairman of the party in the area, Alhaji Mani Mai-Katako, said that the action was sequel to the myriad of achievements recorded by Katami as a four-term chairman of the area.
“Katami had performed creditably. He was elected twice as chairman and appointed twice by the state government as a caretaker chairman.
“We believe in him and we are confident that he will represent us well in the House of Representatives,” he added.
Katami’s campaign Coordinator, Alhaji Muhammad Sani; Women Leader, Hajiya Rabi Gande, and a Councillor representing Gunki Ward, Alhaji Bello Gunki, all lauded the chairman for his performance.
“That is why we want him to contest the post so that we will enjoy more dividends of democracy at the national level,” they said. (NAN)
