ABA (Sundiata Post) – Legal icon and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Donald Ibezim Udogu, has said that he foresees a situation in which the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, will be jailed by the Federal Government and his pardon used as bait by the All Progressive Congress (APC) for attracting Southeast votes in the 2027 presidential election.
Udogu said while many prominent leaders within and outside the geopolitical zone are calling for and even taking responsibility for Kanu’s release, the authorities insist that the matter be settled in court, a move, he noted was angling towards his projection.
“I foresee a situation in which Kanu will be jailed and his conviction used as bargain in 2027, by whoever that will emerge as president. He will be jailed, after that, he will then be granted presidential pardon. That’s what I think might happen.”
The Aba-based lawyer, said further that unless the Nigerian leadership reintegrate Ndigbo into mainstream governance, things will continue to be difficult for the country. He posited that in view of the contributions of past and present Igbo sons and daughters, to the socioeconomic and industrial development of the nation, those marginalising Ndigbo in Nigeria’s affairs were playing with the wrong foot.
He questioned what offence Kanu committed that Sunday Igboho, the Yoruba Nation agitator and Bello Bodejo, Miyetti Allah leader, did not do that led to the withdrawal of cases against them and setting them free, while the IPOB leader continues to be incarcerated, even when competent courts have ruled that he be released.
“What is the rational behind government’s abandonment of similar cases involving Sunday Igboho of Yoruba Nation agitation and Miyetti Allah leader, Bello Bodejo, while he (Kanu), continues to be incarcerated.
Udogu called on Ndigbo to brace up for the present hard times, believing that the future will be bright for upcoming generations.
