LAGOS – Hundreds of All Progressives Congress (APC) members from Somolu area of Lagos State on Tuesday protested at the House of Assembly, alleging irregularities in the party’s April congress.
The party members came to the assembly with placards having various inscriptions.
Some of the inscriptions read: “Somolu needs total mandate’’, “Please let there be change, not case’’,“Minority can never rule majority in Somolu,’’ and “Asiwaju, you are a true democrat, act now.”
Mr Olusegun Fehintola, who led the protesters, said that the party’s congress was manipulated in the eight wards that made up Somolu Local Government.
Fehintola said it was his second time of leading the protesters to the assembly on the same issue. [eap_ad_2] “We decided to come back here due to the lukewarm attitude toward our earlier complaints and plight over the undemocratic handling of the last party congress in Somolu Local Government,” he said.
Feyintola said that the anomalies discovered during the congress had also been reported to the state secretariat of the party.
“We strongly appeal to the party, through the house, to consider our plight and uphold the democratic result of the last APC congress in Somolu Local Government in the interest of the party,” Fehintola pleaded.
The Speaker of the House, Mr Adeyemi Ikuforiji, assured the aggrieved party members that their grievances would be addressed.
Ikuforiji, who was represented by Mr Ajibayo Adeyeye, the house leader, said that the APC had listening leaders.
He said that the house would definitely do something positive to address their grievances.
“I want to plead with you that something positive will be done to address the issue soon,” he said. (NAN) [eap_ad_3]
