Sokoto,-A stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State, Dr Jabbi Kilgore, on Saturday advocated for dialogue a solution to ending insurgency in the country.
Kilgore said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the Federal Government should parley with the Boko Haram insurgents “in order to end the senseless killings of innocent Nigerians.”
He observed that the activities of the insurgents posed a threat to the nation’s hard earned unity.
Kilgore urged President Muhammadu Buhari to do every thing humanly possible, including dialogue, to bring an end the wanton destruction of lives and property of Nigerians by the insurgents.
He noted that there was nowhere in the world where the use of force had provided solution to ending insurgency.
He said dialogue does not mean loosing faith, but a “solution to most of our problems in Nigeria, including the frequent strikes by the insurgents.’’
Kilgore, a former commissioner for environment, advised the government to look at security issues “dispassionately, critically and patriotically to bring to an end, the senseless killings of Nigerians.”
He called on Christian and Muslim leaders to embark on proper religious education to stop further carnage in the country..
“ We must look at our faiths and go back to our various religious books as Muslims and Christians to educate ourselves on the punishment by God if one kills; we must come together and fight insurgency to a standstill.
“I strongly believe that proper education will make them (the insurgents) have a re-think and turn to be better members of the society for the peace, progress and political growth of our country.
“When we do so honestly and sincerely, things will get better in Nigeria, and the desired political change will be a reality,’’ he said. (NAN)
