The PDP on Wednesday expressed worries over comments credited to All Progressives Congress (APC) that it would run a parallel government if the party lost the Aug. 9 Osun State gubernatorial election. The APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, allegedly told the crowd at the party’s rally at Osogbo on Tuesday that APC would run its own government “if rigged out’’ by PDP in the election. The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr Oliseh Metuh, told newsmen in Abuja that the comments were treasonable and capable of destabilising the country. According to Metuh, the comments give the impression that APC can also overthrow the existing Federal Government if it failed to win future elections.

Whenever they win as was the case in Edo, it is free and fair. “It is a globally acknowledged fact that shadow or parallel governments have no place in a presidential system. “Therefore, the threat to institute such is nothing short of implementing the agenda to destabilise and collapse the democratic system and institute a reign of anarchy. “The statement by the APC National Chairman, therefore, has confirmed our position that the APC is not planning for the 2015 election,” Metuh He called on the populace to be ready to defend democracy and protect it from those who were hell-bent at taking the country back to the dark ages.
