ABUJA – A frontline governorship aspirant and former National Auditor of All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. George Mogahlu, has expressed optimism that the party will coast home to victory in the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State.

He said party’s achievements in the Southeast in the last six years have endeared the people of the state and other parts of the region to the party.

Addressing reporters after submitting his expression of interest and nomination forms at APC national secretariat at weekend in Abuja, Mogahlu dismissed the insinuation that the party would not get the support of the Anambra people in the forthcoming governorship poll.

He said: “Why won’t they support us? And when people keep saying APC is not popular in Anambra, in 2017 election, we came second. We beat Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in that election. So, what happened? Is it demons that voted for us? The same Anambra people are there for us now.”

governorship hopeful, who is also the Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), said the records of the APC in the last six years in the Southeast had turned the table against all opposition parties in the election.

“There was a time in this country when Chairman of a House Committee on Works was an Igbo man. Deputy Senate President was an Igbo man. The Deputy Speaker was an Igbo man. The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning was an Igbo lady. The Secretary to Government was Igbo. Yet, no one kilometre of was tarred in the Southeast.

“And now you are asking why an Anambra man won’t trust APC. Second Niger Bridge, they did flag-off for four times. Every election year, we flag it off. Every election year, we set up canopies and flag it off until President Muhammadu Buhari came and it stopped. And actual construction started.

“Today, we are being told of handover day in the first quarter of 2022.

“As we speak, Enugu-Onitsha road is being addressed; the Enugu-Port Harcourt road is being addressed. A new contract has been awarded between Umahia and Ikot-Ekpene; same thing for Aba-Ikot-Ekpene,” he said.
