AWKA – The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) said that 204 nomination forms had been sold to various aspirants as the date for their purchase closed on Nov. 4.
Chief Mike Kwentoh, Chairman of the party in the state, announced this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Awka.
Kwentoh gave the details to include 152 forms for Anambra House of Assembly; 41 for the House of Representatives and 11 for Senate.
The chairman said that forms could still be sold to aspirants who were not able to purchase them within the stipulated time.
According to him, the guidelines of the party provide that the chairman could approve the sale of forms to aspirants beyond the officially announced date.
“The party guidelines provide that the chairman has the discretion to sell forms to aspirants who failed to buy within the sales period in the spirit of fairness to all up till one week to the elections.
“It has been a one week of serious activities since we commenced sale of forms; 152 forms for 30 positions in the state house; 41 for 11 positions in the house of representatives and 11 forms for three seats in the senate.
“It shows the party is doing well and people accept APGA very well.
“The party congratulates those who wish to vie on its ticket and our assurance is that there will be free, fair and credible primaries; we need to allow the people chose their best because any winner in the primaries would likely win the election.”
Kwentoh also said that APGA made Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra the leader of the party and Chairman, Board of Trustees, to replace Chief Peter Obi who recently defected to the Peoples Democratic Party.
The chieftain said Obiano had shown himself to be an achiever within his assumption of office in March as well as possessing the capacity to steer the party to greater heights.
He said that the party had decided to move on in spite of the recent defections, adding that it was regrettable that ideas no longer ruled political party membership.
“People move in and out of parties to suit their selfish interest; it’s a pity that it has become a norm these days; eve the PDP lost one of their biggest shots.” (NAN)
