IKEJA – An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced a painting apprentice, Rafiu Sule, to one year in prison for stealing a Murano jeep engine worth N400, 000.
“Having pleaded guilty to the charge of theft against you, you are hereby sentenced to one year in prison without an option of fine,” the Magistrate, Mrs Olufunke Hamzat, said.
She said the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others.
The convict, who resides at Okeletu, Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos, was arraigned on a one-count charge of theft.
The prosecutor, Insp. Roman Unuigbe, told the court that the Sule committed the offence on April 27 at Cain Village in Maryland, Lagos.
Unuigbe said Sule stole the Murano jeep engine, property of one Mr Tope Bada.
He said, “Sule confessed to stealing the engine from the jeep where it was parked and selling it for N6, 000.”
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. (NAN)
