LAGOS – A 30-year-old miscreant, Abiola Ogunmola, was on Thursday remanded in Ikoyi Prisons for allegedly torturing one Alhaji Nasirudeen Ajawesola, 68, to death.
Magistrate E.O. Ogunkanmi of an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos gave the

Ogunkanmi said the accused should be kept behind bars at Ikoyi Prisons, pending a legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions.
She adjourned the case to May 3.
The accused, who resides at No. 7, Adepeju Close, Ketu, near Lagos, is facing a charge of murder.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Asu Feddy, told the court that the accused and his gang now at large tortured Ajawesola to death.
“The deceased son, a vulcanizer, had invited his father to help him out because he was being bullied for not participating in community work.
“Ajawesola on arrival at the scene was alleged to have hit the younger brother of Ogunmola with a fetish ring, making him unconscious.
“ Ogunmola insisted that Ajawesola must revive his brother but when he (Ogunmola) noticed that Ajawesola could not do it, he detained Ajawesola on his own.
“Ogunmola and his gang, out of annoyance, took the laws into their hands and tortured the deceased to death,’’ the prosecutor said.
Feddy said the offence was committed on Nov. 8, 2014 at 11.00 a.m. at Segun Salau Street in Ketu.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that subject to the provisions of any other law, a person who commits the offence of murder shall be sentenced to murder.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.(NAN)
