Enugu – The Chief of Army Logistics, Maj.-Gen. Rogers Nicholas, has called for joint training of security agencies at junior cadre level.
Nicholas made the call on Thursday while delivering a keynote lecture on “Inter-Agency Co-operation and National Security’’ in the 2017 Regimental Sergeant Major Convention held at the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu.
The three-day convention had the theme: “Strengthening the Framework for Discipline and Regimentation for Professional Responsiveness in the Nigerian Army’’.
He said that a common ground for joint training of junior cadre personnel would improve security personnel and outfits performance in the country.
“This move will further foster discipline and unity among soldiers, police and other security agencies both at barracks and units as well as in field operations’’.
He noted that police was in-charge of internal security but if they are having difficulties in discharging their duty; the military provide some sort of internal security duty back-up for them.
Maj.-Gen. Adamu Abubakar, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Division, directed the participants to pass down the knowledge gained in the convention to their troops and soldiers under them.
“The knowledge you have gained here will be a waste if you do not hand it over to your juniors and soldiers,’’ Abubakar advised.
He said that regimental sergeant majors are the most effective link between officers and soldiers, adding that they must instill discipline on the soldiers.
“Without discipline, personnel will not be able to key into the COAS vision of having a professionally responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional roles,’’ Abubakar added.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the convention, which was opened on Monday, Aug. 21, by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, represented by the Chief of Army Administration, Maj.-Gen. Idris Alkali, ended on Thursday, Aug. 24.
It attracted scores of Regimental Sergeant Majors from various army barracks, units and formations within the country
