•Burning houses in Iggah, Enugu, following the invasion
ENUGU (Sundiata Post) – A combined team of soldiers and policemen has reportedly invaded and razed Iggah community in Uzo Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State following the alleged killing of two police officers in mufti suspected to have been on an illegal operation in the area.
A video footage seen by News Express this Sunday morning, May 5, 2024 showed houses on fire, with the narrator giving details of how invading soldiers and policemen torched them in a surprise operation yesterday.
Another video footage shows a multitude of weeping Iggah women and children protesting over the calamity brought upon the community by the invaders.
A source who spoke with News Express on the matter said: “The latest crisis started a few days ago after a well-known land speculator from Adani community invaded the rice farm at Adarice in collaboration with the DPO, Adani, who gave him some plain-clothed policemen. There was resistance from Iggah youths at the rice farm and in the ensuing fracas, two people who turned out to be policemen on mufti were killed. That is what caused the burning down and orgy of killings going on now in Iggah community, whereas the incident took place at the rice farm which is far from the scene.”
The source disclosed that “the traditional ruler of Iggah Community who has been on the run because of the criminal activities of kidnappers, land speculators and some people in his community that sold the newly discovered oil rig in his area, has been arrested and detained at the police headquarters, Enugu.” (News Express)
