Lagos – An artisan, Bob Ozurumba, was on Friday brought before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly breaking into a house and stealing electrical appliances worth N2.4 million.
Ozurumba, 36, who is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, breaking and entry and theft, denied the charge.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Ben Ekundayo, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Jan. 12, at 1.00p.m., at Lekki Gardens Phase II, Lekki, Lagos.
He said that the accused conspired with two others now at large and broke into the house of the complainant, Mr Chibuike Umeh, who was out with his family.
Ekundayo said that Ozurumba stole three air conditioners, six water heaters, electrical fittings and cables, all valued at N2.4 million, from the apartment.
He said that the accused and his accomplices were sighted by a security guard while carting away the items.
According to him, the accused was apprehended while the others escaped.
The offences contravened Sections 287, 309 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 287 stipulates three years imprisonment, Section 309 prescribes three years imprisonment, while Section 411 carries two years imprisonment for offenders.
Magistrate Ade Adefulire granted the accused N1 million bail, with two sureties in like sum.
He said that the sureties must have a minimum of N500,000 in their bank accounts, and adjourned the case until Feb. 28, for mention.
