Lagos – Miss Segun Taylor, a documentary photographer, has urged banks and corporate organisations to assist budding artists by providing financial assistance to them to boost their chosen career.
Taylor told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos that several artists had been financially handicapped to boost their career.
This had led many of them into depression, she said.
She said if banks and corporate organizations could come to their aid, life would be meaningful to them and they would be self-reliant in later years.
The photographer said that there was no loan scheme that artists could draw from directly, adding this had made the industry to suffer a huge setback especially for young artists.
“ We need corporate bodies which can empathise with these up-and-coming talents, assist then financially through the provision of soft loan facilities or sponsor them.
“Depression may lead many of these people to commit crime and atrocities that may end them in jail.
“Please let’s ensure these up-and-coming artists get funded to enable them contribute their quota to the industry as it needs more talents to sustain it,’’ she said.
Taylor reiterated that when these artists were assisted, crime rate would reduce in the country and more employment opportunities would be opened.
