Ilorin – An assessment team to the Kwara state Polytechnic clinic has advised management of the institution to ensure that the facility was accredited for National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) programme.
Leader of NHIS team, Alhaji Abdulrasaq Ottu, gave the advice on Tuesday during the assessment visit to the polytechnic Clinic.
“Accreditation of the clinic would afford this institution the opportunity to treat people in the neighbouring communities and eventually increase the polytechnic’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR),” he said.
He said the team’s periodic visit was to find out whether there were adequate facilities in the clinic and to know if the clinic was being run in accordance with NHIS guidelines.
Ottu added that apart from the various facilities which the management had provided, there is the need for the clinic to be accredited to meet NHIS standard.

The team leader who commended the efforts of the management for the face lift being given to the clinic, disclosed that the premium rate for each student has now being increased from N1,600 to N2,000.
This, Ottu said was a new package from the NHIS that would now give female students access to ante-natal care.
Responding, the Deputy Rector, Mr Ahmed Aminu, noted that NHIS has put the best arrangement in place for healthcare delivery to the students of the polytechnic.
He disclosed that with the introduction of the scheme in the polytechnic, the facilities in the clinic have improved.
Aminu said that drugs were now available in the clinic, while an ambulance has being purchased for the use of the clinic. (NAN)
