ABUJA – The Building and Construction Skilled Artisans Association of Nigeria (BACSAAN) has commended President Goodluck Jonathan for negotiating a ceasefire agreement with the Boko Haram insurgents.
A statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by Adams Ankpa, the National Publicity Secretary of BACSAAN quoted Fasasi Mohammed-Jamiu, the association’s National President, as urging President Jonathan to negotiate a permanent settlement with the insurgents.
The statement also quoted Mohammed-Jamiu as commending Jonathan on the agreement, noting that Boko Haram insurgency and other security challenges were inimical to national growth and development.
It said that the announcement of the ceasefire which came from the Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff gave Nigerians the confidence that the agreement will succeed.
“The news has brought a big relief to all peace and development loving Nigerians.
“Please demonstrate a genuine spirit of give and take to make the ceasefire successful and permanent.
“Your name (Jonathan) shall be written in gold in the history of Nigeria for generations to appreciate your effort at ending this national calamity through negotiations,’’ Mohammed-Jamiu said in the statement.
It appealed to the President Jonathan to disregard those who might see the ceasefire negotiation as a sign of weakness, stating that the president’s action was a tactical approach. (NAN)
