KANO – The Kano State chapter of the National Association of Patent Medicine Dealers of Nigeria, on Friday in Kano handed over substandard, fake and expired drugs worth N65 million to NAFDAC.
Handing over the drugs, the chairman of the association, Alhaji Hussein Zakari, said the drugs were released voluntarily by members.
“As part of our internal mechanism, we agreed to sanitise our business without the authorities coming in.
“We decided that no member should sell harmful drugs to the public because of pecuniary benefits.
“It is pleasing that these drugs we submitted today are our little contribution to the health of every Nigerian,” he said.
Mr Nnaji Aso, the Director of the agency in the state, described the action of the association as worthy of emulation.
“I must stress that with stakeholders in the medical sector making voluntary gesture to eradicate fake drugs from the society, the sky is the limit for Nigeria’s development.
“NAFDAC will continue to partner with relevant bodies in Kano to reduce the menace of drug addiction among the general public and the youth,” he said.
The event was attended by representatives of the police, SSS and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. (NAN)
