LAGOS – The Head Coach of the Lagos State Boxing Association, Wasiu Bisiriyu, said on Wednesday that the annual Lagos State Governors Boxing Belt, would feature eight bouts to honour Gov. Babatunde Fashola.
Bisiriyu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a telephone interview that the event, slated for Dec. 26, would be a send-forth for the out-going governor.
The coach said that the amature boxing competition which would be held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium would be the last for the present dispensation in the state.
“We the organisers and the athletes are putting finishing touches to ensure a befitting outing on Boxing Day.
“The governor has shown a lot of support to the association in the last five years such as foreign trainings and competitions for boxers, nothing can be too much to honour him.”
Bisiriyu disclosed that the association had extended invitation to two champion title holders in two West African countries, Ghana and Togo to make the even spectacular.
According to him, the 2014 belt will be different from the previous ones in many ways.
“The execution is going to have international panache; the prize money is going to be higher than what it used to be.
“We are also expecting larger turnout of spectators that is why the venue is shifted from Row Park to Teslim Balogun Stadium,” he said. (NAN)
