Lagos- Mr Foluso Fasoto, the President of Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN), has appealed to the Federal Government to revitalise the mining sector to strengthen the nation’s economy.
He gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Thursday.
According to him, revitalising the sector should be part of government’s efforts to rectify the imbalance in the economy.
“Nigeria is richly endowed with vast reserves of gold, iron ore, gypsum, coal, barite, uranium, tantrum and other mineral deposits.
“The solid mineral sector is crucial to overcoming our dependence on oil and gas,’’ he said.
The president also urged the federal government to revitalise the export free zones and industrial parks.
According to him, the zones and parks are necessary to enable the country’s economy gain strong foothold.
Fasoto said that the government should also organise road shows in Nigeria’s Embassies/High Commissions to showcase all the economic potentials of the country.
“The nation can no longer fold its arms to developments in the global economy.
“It must diversify and do so decisively,’’ he said.
According to him, there is need to also adopt zero tolerance to corruption. (NAN)
