LAGOS – The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Lagos State University (LASU) Chapter, on Thursday accused the institution of withholding the union’s check off dues since November 2014.

The union’s Chairman, Dr Adekunle Idris, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the body had written to the management about the issue.
He described the management’s explanation on the issue as unacceptable.
According to Idris, the authorities’ reply was that another faction within the union had written, claiming the leadership of the union’s executive.
“The university authorities claimed that another group chaired by Mr Asokere Ayodele had written a [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]letter that the Dr Idris- led executive has been suspended,” he said.
He said the authorities had also accused him of addressing himself as a PhD holder in his letter to the [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]institution’s authorities rather than a Mr.
“The authorities claimed that my PhD certificate had been withdrawn by the university senate and so, I should not refer to myself as Dr Idris but Mr Idris.”
Idris said the authorities claimed that the suspension of ASUU Treasurer, Dr Tajudeen Olumoko, [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]informed their decision not to remit the dues.
The ASUU boss accused the authorities of playing politics with the check off dues.
Idris said it had notified the ASUU National Executive Council (NEC) on the issue, adding that appropriate action would be taken.
“NEC might sue the individuals who constitute the faction because my executive committee is the only recognised leadership of ASUU in LASU,” he stressed. (NAN)
