Bauchi – The management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBU-TH) in Bauchi has called on wealthy individuals in the state to assist less privileged patients on admission in the hospital.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Bauchi, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Hospital, Dr Yusuf Jibrin, said patients in that category, especially those placed on routine dialysis as a result of kidney ailment, were finding it difficult to foot their bills.
He said the hospital had been assisting such patients but could not continue doing so alone due to paucity of funds, hence the need for individuals and organisations, to also assist.
According to him, the hospital, through its committee referred to as ‘League of Friends’ has been calling on the rich and those capable of taking care of payments of bills, to come forward and help.
“The League of friends, under the Chairmanship of Alhaji Adamu Jumba, the Chiroma of Bauchi, has been working together with religious, as well as traditional leaders, to scout for assistance for the patients.
“We are seeking for donation from wealthy people in the society, for the less privileged patients through the committee,” he added.
Jibrin stated that a patient on dialysis spent about N45, 000.00 every week for the rest of his or her life, except if there was kidney transplant.

The CMD however commended the public for their support and willingness to donate blood to the hospital.
“We have at least 100 pints in our blood bank at any given time, but we still urge for more donation, he said.(NAN)
