Lagos -A cross-section of athletes and other users on Monday urged the management of the National Stadium in Lagos to ensure regular cleanliness of the sports facility’s environment.
A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who visited the stadium on Monday after the New Year Holiday reports that most parts of the edifice was clean.
Chisom Emeka, a disabled athlete, however told NAN that the stadium was kept clean because of the tour of facilities by the Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalung.
Emeka said the stadium management needed to sustain the cleanliness of the atmosphere in order to ensure users of the facility get the best.
“The stadium is exceptionally clean today (Monday) and I believe it’s because the Sports Minister is around to inspect the stadium,” he said.
Bose Adeosun, a tennis player, also advised the stadium management to employ more workers to keep the stadium clean.
Adeosun said that hiring more cleaners would go a long way to keep the stadium clean.
“The stadium is not always clean, because there are few workers cleaning the environment.
“I see no reason why the management cannot get more people to clean the place regularly,” the athlete said.

Also, a coach, who pleaded for anonymity, told NAN that it was a shame that the stadium was thoroughly clean because of the minister’s visit.
The coach however said he was sure the stadium would return to its dirty condition at the end of the minister’s official inspection of facilities.
“This is not a new thing. The management of the stadium is in the habit of keeping the stadium extraordinarily clean whenever a top official is coming for inspection.
“After the visit, the place will go back to its normal dirty status,” he said.
