Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, and ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo gathered in Abuja for a colloquium marking the 60th birthday of former Imo State Governor Emeka Ihedioha.
The event took place at the Ladi Kwali Hall of the Abuja Continental Hotel, with Obasanjo presiding as chairman and Bishop Matthew Kukah delivering the keynote speech.
After the celebration, Atiku shared a message on the social media platform X, expressing his appreciation for Ihedioha’s contributions. He described the former governor as a patriot and long-time associate, using the occasion to reflect on their shared experiences. He also extended prayers for Ihedioha’s continued good health and service to humanity.
This gathering occurred just days after Atiku, Ihedioha, and other opposition figures, including a representative of Peter Obi, held a press conference at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja. The meeting was in response to President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State, which resulted in the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other elected officials.
Atiku used the press conference to hint at a possible coalition among opposition parties to challenge Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
