BRUSSELS – A joint meeting of the Political and Security Committee of the EU and the Peace and Security Commission of the AU, opened on Thursday in Brussels, official said.According to a statement of the Council of Member States, the meeting is intended to take stock of the security situation in Africa.
The meeting will also assess results of the financial aid granted by EU to the various AU-led military missions.
The meeting is expected to consider the security situation in Nigeria after the abduction of over 200 schoolgirls by the Islamist sect Boko Haram in the northeastern Borno State.
More than a month after the kidnapping of the the Nigerian military is still unable to locate the place where the girls are kept.
The meeting will also discuss the security situation in the Central African Republic.
Over 800 men were deployed for more than a month, chasing pirates in the Indian Ocean, off the Somali coast.
The meeting is being jointly presided over by Walter Stevens, Chairman of the EU Political and Security Committee. (PANA/NAN)
