BERLIN – Olympic 100 metres hurdles champion Sally Pearson underwent surgery on Friday in Rome after dislocating her wrist and suffering two arm fractures in a fall at the Diamond League meet.
She sustained the injury in the Italian capital on June 4, the Athletics Australia said.
No recovery time was given in the statement, and it remains unclear whether Pearson will be fit to compete at the Aug. 22 to Aug. 30 world championships in Beijing.
Pearson, a 2011 world champion and Olympic champion from 2012, fell hard onto her left arm after clipping the fifth hurdle in her race at Rome’s Olympic stadium on Thursday.
“Pearson suffered a dislocation and a complex fracture of both the ulna and the radius in her left arm in the fall,’’ the statement said.

“It is, however, too early to tell what impact the injury will have on the remainder of her season and her hopes of competing for Australia at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing in August.’’
Athletics Australia said she is expected to return to `Down Under’ after the operation. (dpa/NAN)
