OFFA – The management of Avalon Hotel, Offa in Kwara, on Wednesday unveiled a new football club, Avalon FC.
The hotel which announced Mr Ganiyu Mustapha, a.k.a. Brimo, as the new Technical Adviser of the team, also unveiled two sets of jerseys for the club’s home and away matches.
Unveiling the club, the hotel’s Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Tajudeen Owoyemi, said in Offa that the hotel created the platform to engage youths and enhance the development of football in the state.
Owoyemi, represented by a staff of the hotel, Alhaji Razak Bakare, urged wealthy individuals to support sports and youth development to promote social cohesion in the country.
He advised the players, coaches and officials of the team to be good ambassadors of Offa community.
NAN reports that yellow jersey was unveiled as the team’s away jersey, while it would use blue jersey for its home assignments.
The team was also presented with a 22-seater bus as they prepare to participate in the Nigeria Nationwide League play-off from May 4 to May 11 in Abuja.
The team was formed in 2011, and in 2012 won its first trophy, Ijakadi Cup in Offa.
In 2013, the team represented the state in the league play-off in Minna against four other states and came tops before winning the Olagunju Cup the same year.
Avalon FC also won the just-concluded Unity Cup played in Ilorin in honour of the state Commissioner for Sports, Mr Saheed Popoola. (NAN)
