Port Harcourt- A Port Harcourt-based Public Affairs Analyst, Mr Charles Jaja, on Friday urged politicians in the country to avoid greed and bitterness in politics to promote love, peace and development.
Jaja told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt that there would be more development in the country if politicians controlled their selfish desires, instead of amassing the common wealth.
“We need politicians who are selfless with the spirit of sportsmanship to move this nation forward.
“If we must develop more than our present state, our political leaders must be willing to show great concern for the welfare of the people they are governing.”
According to Jaja, the urge for self-aggrandisement by public office holders is the main cause of bitter politics and violence before, during and after elections.
He said it was embarrassing that the country was still faced with challenges of providing electricity for its citizens and still hundred per cent import dependent on refined petroleum products.
“I pray and hope that the news about Port Harcourt and Warri Refineries resuming production by June ending come to reality.

“Even at that, the two refineries will not refine up to their capacity, this is absolutely unacceptable because the nation ought to have gone beyond this stage,” he said.
Jaja called on politicians and the public to support President Muhammadu Buhari in his resolve to fight corruption and insecurity, to move the country out of its economic doldrums. (NAN)
