Gunmen launched a brazen attack on Babcock University in Ogun State, resulting in the tragic death of Professor Yinka Olomojobi, a distinguished figure in the field of law, and the abduction of two others.
The horrifying incident occurred on Friday evening when gunmen besieged the university premises. Professor Olomojobi, displaying remarkable bravery, refused to comply with the assailants’ demands, leading to a fatal confrontation.
In addition to the professor’s tragic demise, two residents were forcibly taken from the scene to an undisclosed location.
Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed that a suspect has been apprehended in connection with the heinous crime. A two-week-old security guard is currently under detention as part of the ongoing investigation.
The incident unfolded at the Ajadeh Event Centre on Sagamu Road, where eyewitnesses recounted scenes of chaos and terror. Eight gunmen, clad in black attire and armed with firearms, stormed the premises, indiscriminately firing shots.
Professor Olomojobi was rushed to Babcock University Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The authorities have vowed to pursue justice vigorously and ensure that those responsible for this senseless act are brought to account.
