Ban Ki-moon’s visit is good omen to Nigeria, says LP scribe

Abuja – The National Secretary of Labour Party, Mr Kayode Ajulo, has said that UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon,s visit to Nigeria is an acknowledgment of the country’s leading position in Africa.

Ajulo spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday.

He observed that Ban’s visit became more pertinent in view of the ongoing efforts by the current administration to end the insurgency ravaging the North-East.

“It is more of a recognition and acknowledgment of Nigeria as number one among the African countries.

“It portends a good omen to Nigeria that the country is receiving the special attention of the world’s number one diplomat,’’ he said.

Ajulo noted that the visit would provide a platform for the UN scribe to make realistic commitments on ways to restore peace in parts of the country affected by insurgency.

He expressed the hope that UN would extend its wealth of experience to galvanise other member nations to assist the Federal Government in the battle to defeat the insurgents.

“I am optimistic that with this visit, the UN must show concern and provide practical assistance on how to restore peace in Nigeria as a whole.

“The UN has background of massive experience in working for the restoration of peace in conflict zones all over the globe.

“I believe that the UN will solicit the cooperation and assistance of its member nations to make relevant contributions toward ending the insurgency in Nigeria,’’ Ajulo added.

NAN reports that Ban has invited President Muhammadu Buhari to a meeting of world leaders in New York in Sept. 28, to formulate fresh plan of action against extremism. (NAN)
