NEW YORK – An internal and independent Board of Inquiry has been set up at the UN Headquarters to look into certain incidents that occurred at UN premises in the Gaza Strip.
The incidents which occurred between July 8 and Aug. 26 lead to damage of parts of the premises.
In a statement issued by his deputy spokesman, Farhan Haq in New York, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon said the board will be led by Mr Patrick Cammaert of The Netherlands.
Other members of the Board are Ms Maria Vicien-Milburn (Argentina), Ms. Lee O’Brien (U.S.), Mr Pierre Lemelin (Canada) and Mr K.C. Reddy (India).
Ban said the Board would review and investigate a number of specific incidents in which death or injuries occurred at the UN premises, as well as the damage done to it.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Board will also review and investigate incidents in which weapons were found on the premises.
The Secretary-General called on all parties concerned to support the Board in its assignment. (NAN)
