On Wednesday evening, bandits kidnapped a mobile police officer near Kampani community in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The officer was traveling with a soldier from Zurak to Kampani when they were ambushed by the bandits. The soldier managed to escape, but the police officer was taken.
Local sources revealed that the soldier and the police officer were part of a security team operating in areas plagued by banditry, such as Bangalala, Kampani, and Zurak. Sahapi Sambo, a youth leader in the area, confirmed the incident, stating, “Both of them were heading to Kampani to join their colleagues when they were attacked. The communities in this area have been dealing with banditry for some time, which is why security personnel are always on patrol to ensure safety. As of now, we haven’t heard anything about the police officer’s whereabouts.”
On Thursday, security forces, including soldiers, police, and vigilantes, tracked the bandits to their hideout in an effort to rescue the abducted officer. The spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Alabo Alfred, did not respond to inquiries about the incident.
