Dhaka – Bangladesh will extend holiday for public and private firms for another week after the national death toll from coronavirus rose to six, an official said on Wednesday.
The South Asian country initially announced a 10-day holiday alongside nationwide restriction on long-haul passenger buses, trains and ferries from March 26 until April 4.
Emergency utility services, hospitals, pharmacies, kitchen markets and vehicles carrying essential items will be out of the purview of the restrictions, according to the order.
The government also suspended all events related to celebration of the Bangla New Year on April 15.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque said that with one more death reported on Wednesday, the death toll from the virus had risen to six.
