Abuja – Niger Potters on Thursday recorded their first win in four matches after defeating Bauchi Nets at the ongoing Savannah Conference Super Six of the 2016 DStv Men’s Premier Basketball League.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Minna-based Potters won 73-62 in the Match Day 4 fixture played at the Abuja National Stadium.
Both teams were struggling to earn their first win in the competition, and ended the first quarter 18-18, and a ding-dong affair prevailed
thereafter for the Potters to win.
Adamu Abdul, coach of Niger Potters, later told NAN he was happy with the team’s performance.
“ I am very happy we won today. This is the first match we are winning. So, I thank God that our hard work and perseverance paid off.
“We just hope that, at the end of the event, we will qualify to feature in the Final Eight playoffs,’’ he said.
On his part, Abu Yuyu, coach of Bauchi Nets, said his team would do better next season.
“It is a pity that so far we have not won any of our matches. But we have one more match tomorrow and I hope that we can win that match.
“I appreciate the efforts of the players, as it has really been a tough event.
“Hopefully, next season we will prepare better and come out stronger than we did this season,’’ he said.
NAN recalls that the Savannah Conference Super Six has league defending champions Mark Mentors of Abuja, Gombe Bulls, Niger Potters of Minna, Bauchi Nets, Kano Pillars and Plateau Peaks of Jos.
The playoffs began on Monday and will end on Friday.(NAN)
